Our Story

About the Director

Willow Nest Studio was founded in 2015 by Elisha Georgiou, MEd. (Teachers College Columbia). Elisha is thrilled to invite Brooklyn's children to her inspired space in Windsor Terrace. The mother of two and a native of California, Elisha has lovingly called Brooklyn home since 1999. With a background in the arts and education, she dedicates her life to fostering love of learning and growing through arts explorations and playful inquiry. Prior to founding Willow Nest Studio, she and her colleague Kristin Eno, co-founded FindandSeek.org – a play-based early childhood laboratory that focuses on materials exploration, artistic creation, play and storytelling. Elisha is deeply inspired by the scribbles and musings, songs and stories of the children with whom she works. She finds sincere joy in designing alternative play environments, curating a vibrant materials library full of fanciful collections, creating curriculum, documenting children's art and bringing interesting children's literature to life through performance. She expects the future of Willow Nest Studio to blossom into a magical, thoughtful and creative world of its own. The very special families who join her on this journey are part of making this happen.

Shanna has been assisting Elisha in the classroom at Willow Nest Studio almost since its inception. She brings immense energy, dedication and joy to her work and a wealth of experience as a mother of two and childcare professional. A resident of Park Slope since 1998, Shanna lives with her husband, daughter and son (who is now attending college and returns for holidays). Originally from Oregon, Shanna has grown deeply into her Brooklyn community. Here you will find her running marathons, hosting book clubs, cooking up vegetarian cuisines, helping in the schools, knitting giant arm scarves, laughing joyfully and enjoying time with family. Shanna believes it is most important to be kind, attentive, loving and joyful in her approach to working with young children. The result is that children easily respond to her gentle, playful and curious personality. Shanna is excited to be part of the growing Willow Nest community.
